Shout-out to Altra

Over the years I've had several operations on my right foot to correct adverse consequences of a previous surgery, so it's important to me to wear comfortable shoes. For this trip I brought two pairs of shoes by Altra (altrarunning.com), who make shoes designed for road and track running. Running is not really my thing these days, but walking significant distances on city streets can be made more comfortable with this type of shoe.

Altra shoes have a forefoot that is shaped pretty much like the front of a human foot; they are not what most people would call fashionable or beautiful, but shoes that deserve those words are seldom comfortable, and squushing my toes into pointed shoes is a part of what led to my foot issues in the first place.

After four hours of walking at the Uffizi yesterday--and I'm sure you know that the slow pace of museum walking is much harder on the body than faster walking--I was well and truly tired. But my feet weren't! Thank you Altra!
